Hotels, Motels, and B&Bs

While the year-round population of Southold is about 24,000, the summer population soars to about three times that.  This number is obviously less certain than the Census Bureau's estimate of the year-round population.

Where do people stay when they come during the summer?

Many own houses in the North Fork where they come for extended stays during the warm weather.

Some of those houses get rented through real estate agents or online rental brokers like VRBO, AirBnB, and Booking.com, among others.

Beyond that the North Fork boasts dozens of hotels, motels, and B&Bs.

Southold, according to the Census Bureau, has a year-round population of about 24,000.  The Census Bureau divides the township into a number of hamlets or villages:

• Greenport Village - 2,583

• Greenport West - 2,282

• Southold Hamlet - 6,040

• Peconic - 692

• Cutchogue - 3,437

• New Suffolk - 403

• Mattituck - 4,322

• Laurel - 1,495
